The Plight

Two song birds suffer the "La Douleur Exquise"

one is bound with the chains of "Amour non réciproque"

the other is bound with the chains of "Interdit d'aimer"

how the birds succumb to their fate

depends on their beloved's silence or their beloved's elucidation

The bird, who faces silence, beats his wings against the chains

trying to rid himself of his heart's plight

his battle rages until something within breaks

his heart shatters and bleeds, his last breath spent

in the mournful song of sorrow and rejection

The bird, who faces elucidation, soars upward

to the height of his chains, a silhouette to the stars

his heart finding acquiescence in his plight

he floats on the wind until his final song

a song of love denied, where the hope of deliverance is found
